It hardly seems possible that ERRI is beginning its 8th year. We all admit it's been a real challenge. We can't take a course on "How to establish a Horse Rescue." We have had to learn as we go, and we also keep trying to improve and get things right as we go. We've learned a lot in eight years. Money and time management must be established while controlling our emotions. We also try not to burn out the many people who help us run our organization. All volunteer organizations face these types of problems - so we can rest assured that we are not alone in our struggle.

We have been blessed with several grants this year from foundations such as the Thoroughbred Charities Foundation, Eva Gude-Brandt Foundation, the William Snyder Foundation, and the Maryland Horse Industry Board (a part of the Maryland Department of Agriculture). Thanks to these and many local businesses and our wonderful membership, we continue to establish a stable foundation from which our organization can grow.

We hope anyone who has any ideas or suggestions will give us a call. We continue to learn from those who come into our group through Internet and telephone inquiries, and we are always in need of more help.

We have two special events over the next two months. Tracey Hurline has put together a special show to benefit ERRI. The Benefit Dressage Schooling Show, scheduled for Oct. 14, will help raise money for our rescues. Our annual benefit dance, which is always a blast, will be Nov. 3 at Our Lady of Grace church in Parkton. Look for details within this newsletter. Hope to see you all at these special ERRI events!

By the way, we can always use silent auction items for our dance so please keep us in mind.

Thanks,
Debbie
