In "The Celestine Prophecy" by James Redfield, the author describes a new millenium where all needs will be met without the exchange of currency. All people will follow the universal principle of giving, knowing that they are in turn receiving. Seems to me that’s where we came from. Who knows? Maybe that’s where we’re headed too. But I know one thing: it seems like some people are already on their way to this new/old order. I am referring, of course, to our many wonderful donors and volunteers who give selflessly of their time, talents and treasures. I trust they are rewarded in ways we will never know.

These people are the lifeblood of our organization. They make it work for the horses we are here to serve. That’s what we’re all about, you know. We’re about horses. We’re about making them whole and well when they’ve been hurt, abused or neglected. We’re about loving them when they’ve lost their humans. We’re about helping them get past the physical, emotional and psychological hurts so they can love again. We’re about calming their fears. We’re about teaching people so they never have to hurt again.

First and foremost in our minds always are the horses. But of course, in the here and now, there are other elements in life. There are people … and grain … and hay … and tack … and rehab programs … and bills, bills, bills. Not much different from your life, I’m sure. So we do what needs to be done so we can do what needs to be done — that is, we patiently talk to the people, we buy the grain and hay and tack, we design the rehab programs and we pay the bills, all so we can focus on the horses.

Our Annual Hoedown, held on November 6, was a great success bringing in twice the funds of last year. See the article later in the newsletter for details.

Our next major event, the Horse World Expo to be held at the Fair Grounds in Timonium on January 14 - 16, will give us the opportunity to make new friends, expand our network, have a little fun and give away some prizes. Events like these don’t happen without the support and kindness of many generous folks who focus on the horses as much as we do. Maybe in the next millenium we’ll be joined by others in sufficient numbers so that each one’s burden will become lighter. Better yet, we’ll find that Redfield had some inside information and we really won’t need money at all. All will give and all will receive in turn. Our sincere hope for each of you is that the new millenium will bring you the best the world has to offer of health, peace and prosperity. And we hold on to the hope that we will live to see a decreased need for rehab, for healing human-inflicted wounds, for mending damaged equine psyches. We hold on to the hope that in the new millenium, we will see more and more happy and harmonious relationships between people and horses, where both will benefit. And through it all, we will still be simply about horses.

All the best to you and yours in this holiday season and in the coming year!
