ERRI adds new attractions to make this year's event even better

EDITOR'S NOTE: This event was cancelled due to equine illness at the host farm and has been rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 17th at 11 a.m.

The 8th Annual Amateur Jousting Club of Maryland's Benefit Joust for ERRI is right around the corner on July 21, 2007, and ERRI volunteers are busy gathering sponsors to help raise money and excitement for this fun-tastic event!

ERRI raises money at the benefit joust through rider sponsorships, parking donations, jouster entry fees, face painting, and vendors.

This year, ERRI is adding some new attractions to the joust with hope that more of the community will come out and enjoy this family friendly event. Besides the aforementioned, this year's event will host a petting zoo with critters like chickens, rabbits, miniature horses, alpacas and goats.

In addition to face-painting, the kids can look forward to rescue-themed games and have opportunities to have their pictures taken with an ERRI rescue horse.

Adult spectators can peruse craft vendors with beautiful wares for both the horsey and non-horsey set. A food vendor will be on site to satisfy the cravings of spectators and jousters alike. And ERRI will have a bake table with delicious goodies for sale.

ERRI hopes to top its biggest-grossing joust, in 2005, where over $3,200 was raised. The 2006 Joust brought in just over $2,500. All proceeds directly benefit ERRI's horses and ponies.

The event begins at 11 a.m. The raindate is July 28th. The joust would only be moved in the case of steady, hard rain. Spectators should bring blankets, chairs and lots of sunscreen but are asked to leave all pets at home.

Anyone interested in participating in the joust should contact Laura Wade Baier at 717-880-3197 to signup. Classes cost $5. Riders must bring their own horse and wear a helmet while mounted. Basic jousting instruction is generously provided by the AJC club members.
