You are here: Newsletters > July 2007 > From the President's Stall It hardly seems possible that so much time has passed since our last newsletter in December. Our board of directors decided two years ago that our budget could not support four newsletters annually, so we cut back. We never anticipated only putting out two per year, but we are making it work. The space is precious in each one, and we have so much to share! ERRI has gone through a little restructuring since last fall. While our board members and volunteers continue to do wonderful work, life happenings can send ERRI projects, and the best of intentions, to the back burner. Our many dedicated helpers do their best to get back to us when life allows, but we find we can never have enough helping hands around. Our Advisory Board worked to figure out how to better use monthly meeting times and how to help our committees function better so the work our organization faces could be better handled, and with the help and blessings of our Board of Directors, they found a solution. Since many of our Advisory Board members were the same people who sat on our committees, why not have less Advisory Board meetings and more committee meetings? Ah, if only all our problems had such simple answers! As a result, ERRI's Advisory Board is now meeting only as needed and our committees are busy putting together the experience of our veteran volunteers with the fresh energy of new ERRI volunteers. ERRI has streamlined its efforts into 7 staple committees: Special Events, Grants, Membership/Volunteer, Marketing/Publicity, Inspections, Rehabilitation & Training, and Technology. We hope some of our wonderful supporters will think about signing up for a committee in an area that interests them. As our rescue grows, our efforts get more complicated as we juggle the needs of our horses, our educational obligations, training volunteers, and making our budget stretch to support our charges. Please help us continue to grow! If you're interested in helping on any of the above committees, contact us at the farm, and we'll put you in contact with the committee chairs. The more, the merrier! Our Special Events Committee has been very busy with plans for the 8th Annual AJC Benefit Joust for ERRI on Saturday, July 21, 2007. We look forward to this event each year, as it's such a fun day that the whole family can enjoy. We're also in the early stages of planning another wonderful silent auction for Nov. 10, 2007 at the Father O'Neill Hall in Lutherville, Md. There will be much more information to follow on that exciting evening as well as the Benefit Dressage Schooling Show scheduled for Sept./Oct. Lastly, we want to send a special thank you to Dr. Rachel Westerlund and Dr. Joann McCrea at the Maryland Equine Center in Sparks, Md. for their generosity, help and expertise in dealing with some of our very difficult veterinary issues! Bring on the heat, Debbie |
