You are here: Newsletters > July 2006 > Volunteers of the Year named at Recognition Dinner ERRI's annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner supplied food, fun and surprises to the 32 volunteers and guests who attended. Held at the An Poitin Stil in Timonium for the 3rd year, the dinner gave volunteers a chance to relax and dress up for some "clean" fun as opposed to the dirty work usually done at the farm. The 2006 Volunteers of the Year were also announced. This year's winners were Hannah and Abby Ziegler who have volunteered since 2000. Hannah, who graduated from Hereford High School in May, and her sister Abby, who will be a senior at Hereford next year, have helped with everything from special events, to feeding, to retraining rescues, to grooming, to installing fencing. ERRI Advisory Board President and dinner emcee Laura Wade Baier said, "While we know each of them will a take very different track into the horse-business future, we know their knowledge and sensitivity will demonstrate to others how horses should be revered and cherished." Baier was also honored with a Volunteer of the Year Award by ERRI Founder Debbie Rollins Frank. "We did this behind her back," said Frank. Baier has volunteered with ERRI since March 2000 and in addition to serving as the Advisory Board President for the past 4 years, has also sat on the Board of Directors. She has worked with rehabilitating and training rescues, published the ERRI newsletter since 2001, and has been instrumental in putting together special events like the Shawan Downs Benefit. "I'm so touched and very surprised," Baier said. "I do this for the horses." ERRI thanks all the volunteers and guests who made the dinner to much fun! |
