6th Annual Benefit Joust to raise needed funds; public encouraged to attend

by Laura W. Baier

It's hard to believe this summer will bring ERRI's 6th Benefit joust on Saturday, July 23 (raindate July 30) at Rendezvous Farm.
Sponsored by the Amateur Jousting Club of Maryland, Inc. (AJC) for the last six years, the joust always offers great fun for ERRI's family of volunteers and for the community.
Festivities begin promptly at 11 a.m. with Leadline and Novice classes followed by the parade and show of colors. The rest of the afternoon is reserved for the seasoned jousters to show their stuff in the Amateur and Professional divisions.
One of ERRI's big yearly fundraisers, the joust raised $2,200 last year. ERRI raises money at the joust through parking donations, medieval dress-up photos, face painting, and rider sponsorships. ERRI encourages the visiting public to sponsor riders and cheer for them during the day's events.
Nihilator Catering will again provide fabulous food for a great price this year. Nihilator is very generous to attend ERRI's jousting events at no overhead cost to ERRI.
Families and community members are encouraged to attend this fun, exciting benefit showcasing Maryland's state sport and ERRI's equines. ERRI hopes several rescues will be ready to participate as they have in past years!
Anyone interested in participating in the joust should contact Laura W. Baier at 717-227-1614 by July 18th. There is a $5 entry fee per class entered. Helmets must be worn whenever mounted on Rendezvous Farm property.
Competitors are responsible for their own mount, transportation, and tack. The AJC supplies lances for visiting participants and are always very helpful to those who haven't tried jousting before.
The public is encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, sunblock, boots or sneakers (as there is a short walk from the parking area to the jousting area) and any other comfort necessities. Rendezvous Farm respectfully asks that pets, other than those equine, be left at home.
