ERRI volunteers are busy preparing for the 2004 Horse World Expo at the Timonium Fairgrounds Jan. 15-18. If history has its way, it will be an icy, snowy weekend, but that isn't deterring ERRI.

It has snowed two out of the last three Expos, and if December's weather is any indication, January could bring more tricky weather.
But despite Mother Nature's plans, volunteers are busy organizing work shifts and preparing ERRI's display for the weekend.

"The Expo is a great venue where we can network and really educate," said ERRI founder and President Debbie Rollins-Frank.

ERRI depends on the Expo to bring in much-needed funds as well. Last year, ERRI made more than $500 selling raffle tickets, goodies, and Limited Edition Seabiscuit Prints by artist Frank Hoffman.

ERRI's Expo Committee is currently securing more exciting raffle items for the 2004 Expo.

"By having several raffles last year, we were able to pull from many interests, including those who may not have a horse of their own," said Laura W. Baier, ERRI Advisory Board President.

Last year ERRI raffled a Barbour coat, a bridle bag and gift certificate from Dogwood Tack, a Spa Basket a stuffed and a stuffed horse for the kids.

ERRI's primary interest during the Expo though, is to spread the word about responsible horse care. ERRI follows the Maryland Horse Council's Guide to Minimum Standards of Care for Equines and distributes flyers to those interested in buying a horse.

Rollins - Frank said, "So many people have no idea what it costs and what kind of a commitment horses take."

In addition to the care guides, ERRI shows prospective horse owners a flyer that loosely estimates the monthly cost of horse ownership.

Please stop by ERRI's booth in the 4-H Building if you visit the Expo to see a list of our available horses and to learn more about us.
