Third try was the charm for event plagued by rainy spring weather

By Laura Baier

It seemed that every time we scheduled our annual Benefit Joust last spring, the heavens would open.

Our first date, May 17th came and went in a torrent of downpours. Our second date May 24th went the same. Finally, on July 19th we were blessed with a dry day to carry out our summer jousting tradition.

This was the 4th Annual Benefit Joust put on by the Amateur Jousting Club of Maryland, Inc. to benefit the horses and ponies of ERRI. It was also ERRI's most successful joust to date bringing in roughly $1800.

We don't know if it was the flyers that papered the county for 3 months, or if it was just a dry day that brought so many out to the farm to enjoy the horses and the fun.

Sponsorships were the biggest money-maker for ERRI this year bringing in over $1200. ERRI also brought in much-needed funds with a photo booth, face painting, parking donations and raffle.

Four of ERRI's rescues participated in the event. Spectators got to learn a little about each rescue and could sponsor their trips through the arches. While all the day's riders could get sponsors, ERRI was proud to show off the skills of some of our rehabilitees.

ERRI wishes to thank the AJC for their continued support. We also thank all the riders, sponsors, volunteers, board members and folks who came out to help and support us!
