For second year, Legg Mason Funds partners with ERRI at Shawan Downs

By Laura W. Baier

For the second consecutive year, ERRI is excited to be the beneficiary of a corporate-sponsored tent hosted by Legg Mason Funds at the 3rd Annual Legacy Chase at Shawan Downs on Sept. 27th, 2003.

ERRI will spread the word about horse abuse and neglect, and responsible horse ownership at the nationally-sanctioned steeplechase event. With a crowd of over 10,000 people expected, ERRI is excited about the opportunity.

Like last year, the Shawan Downs event will be ERRI's big fall fundraiser. We will offer a palate of interdisciplinary equestrian demonstrations to the patrons that day between races.

The Maryland Polo Club, My Lady's Manor Driving Club, 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program of Carroll County and riders from The Retreat will show skills in polo, carriage driving and dressage. We will also present 2003 Special Olympic World Games Ireland Team USA medal winners. ERRI will raise money by gathering business, corporate and private sponsors for the demonstrations.

ERRI will also raise money that day through the sale of a limited number of John Eisenberg's book Native Dancer: The Grey Ghost with the author available for signing. All proceeds benefit ERRI, thanks to book donations by Tal Daley. ERRI will also sell Limited Edition Seabiscuit Prints by artist Frank B. Hoffman and hold a raffle in the Legg Mason Funds tent.

ERRI is currently looking for a donation of a trip-related raffle item. If you or your business is interested in sponsoring a demo or donating a raffle item, please contact Laura W. Baier at 717-227-1614 by Sept. 22nd. All donations to ERRI are tax deductible as ERRI is a 501 (c)3 charitable organization.

On race day, gates will open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. The opening ceremonies begin at noon with first race at 1 p.m. Shawan Downs is located on Shawan Road, 1.5 miles west of I-83 at Falls Rd. Tickets will not be sold at the gate, but a limited number of tickets can be purchased through ERRI for $80 per person. Call 717-227-1614 to reserve your ticket today!
