With summer almost over and our fantastic Benefit Jousting Tournament in July behind us, we are concentrating on the upcoming fall fundraising event at Shawan Downs on Sept. 27th. ERRI's volunteers have been busy arranging equestrian demonstrations in polo, driving and dressage to ride between steeplechase races that day, in addition to our usual educational and informational display tent.

ERRI is excited about offering the more than 10,000 spectators attending the races a look at how versatile our equine companions are. As this event is our big fall fundraiser, ERRI is looking for businesses and people to sponsor these wonderful riding demonstrations. All proceeds directly benefit the horses and ponies here at ERRI. Anyone interested can call our Advisory Board President Laura Baier at 717-227-1614 by Sept. 22nd. We are all looking forward to having as wonderful a time as we had last year!

Here at headquarters we are also very busy retraining rescue horses and ponies. Unfortunately, we have not been able to take many new projects, as we have had some of our past rescues return for various reasons. If we only had more space, time and especially money!

But as we trudge forward, we know that we are not alone in our troubles. I get calls every day from people all over the state and country because most equine rescues are in the same situation - absolutely full! Hopefully, we can continue to educate future horse owners about the enormous responsibility and costs associated with horse ownership and, in the process, make programs like ours something of the past. Until that happens, we can always use help from volunteers who have worked with difficult horses before. Please give us a call and come out for a visit.

Autumn here we come!
