ERRI gears up for farm project to resume in April

By Laura W. Baier

The 2002 Chesapeake Bay Small Watershed Grants Program of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) awarded ERRI a $25,000 challenge grant last year to help restore, manage pasture lands, and control soil erosion in the Piney Creek Watershed.

The project is underway again after a long, hard winter. ERRI has sent in receipts for most volunteer work done thus far and is expecting $7,500 dollars worth of fencing lumber to be delivered soon.

ERRI will begin clearing fence-lines again in April and May, and new fence posts will be planted this spring as well.

ERRI needs volunteers to help with this monstrous task. Anyone interested in coming out for a workday should call Linda Veblen at 410-472-9447.

All volunteer hours help ERRI meet its 2:1 obligation for the grant, and can help school kids meet volunteer requirements for graduation.
