Thousands of guests spent a beautiful day in the country on 300 acres of rolling farmland at the Shawan Downs Legacy Cup Race on Sept. 28th. ERRI guests had an exceptional view of the festivities at the Clubhouse Turn sponsored by Legg Mason Funds. Not only did Legg Mason Funds provide the tent and food, they were ERRI's corporate sponsor.

The fund-raiser featured original artwork by local artists, oriental rugs, limited edition prints and much more. One of the highlights of the silent auction was the "unveiling" of a limited edition Seabiscuit print by renowned artist Frank Hoffman. Walter Borton, a Taos fine arts and antique public relations expert, discovered the original drawing. As a result of his hard work and dedication over the past year, the beautiful limited edition print is now available for purchase through ERRI, with all proceeds benefiting ERRI.

Guests of Legg Mason Funds' tent were also privy to the original 1938 Seabiscuit vs. War Admiral race presented by historian Ryan Kelly of the Maryland Jockey Club.

ERRI volunteers spent the day spreading the word about what ERRI does and spoke with guests about our horses and our efforts. ERRI hopes similar future opportunities to speak to the horse community will help us continue our educational endeavors.

Kelly's efforts in helping ERRI pull together this fund-raiser were invaluable.

Many thanks to our donors, guests, Walter Borton, Ryan Kelly and Legg Mason Funds for their support on behalf of our equine companions.
